Dating from the 1930s, this quirky little table has been given a rather unique makeover. Painted black with a hint of gilt, it has been decorated with decoupage vintage-style butterflies, reminiscent of Victorian chinoiserie – the signature upcycling style of Arundel Eccentrics.

‘This would make a perfect bedside table,’ says Brenda Nassarian, co-owner of Arundel Eccentrics for 25 years, along with her husband Nass. ‘It has a small drawer and unusual pull-out shelves, one with a brass container.’

About Arundel Eccentrics

Based in the beautiful historic town of Arundel in Sussex, the couple’s store is housed in an old warehouse. It was once part of the 18th-century Swallow Brewery and is the perfect backdrop to their collection of English and French decorative antique and vintage furniture.

Brenda and Nass first started experimenting with their decoupage technique on Victorian bamboo furniture that they were restoring, before moving on to 1930s brown and abandoned furniture, as well as vintage enamel buckets and tubs. ‘These pieces have become so popular it has been difficult keeping up with demand!’ says Brenda.

Their upcycled creations have been featured in interiors magazines including Architectural Digest and they were invited to showcase their collection at Liberty of London. ‘My grandfather was a highly respected antiques restorer who specialised in hand-painted chinoiserie,’ reveals Brenda. ‘I think that’s why I love the look so much.’
